Amazon - delivery driver

UIX Reimagined #1. It's the Amazon app, but the user gets more info on their delivery driver (probably too much).

Inspired in part by the brilliant Ken Loach film Sorry We Missed You.

Bathroom breaks for delivery drivers have been a controversial issue for some time. I’m sure Amazon would never go for this for all sorts of reasons, but if they did, I wonder how many users would offer use of their bathroom…

The bathroom issue stuck with me because it is such a basic human right. In Sorry We Missed You, the drivers are almost slaves to the device that sends them from house to house, and the customer sees none of it. They see someone drop off a parcel, not the day behind it. Amazon would never do this, and it would never be commercially acceptable, but that isn’t the point of the exercise. The point is to put that side of the job in front of the customer, and satirise it a little.

Mockup of the Amazon app’s order panel, six stops away. It shows the driver, Marcus A., an Amazon delivery driver for four months, with a bar for his current energy level and a warning that he hasn’t been to the bathroom in three hours. Two buttons read “No chance” and “Offer use of bathroom”.
